چکیده

Data assimilation is an important technique to improve simulation results by assimilating real time sensor data into a simulation model. A data assimilation framework based on Sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) methods for wildfire spread simulation has been developed in previous work. This paper provides systematic analysis and measurement to quantify the effectiveness and robustness of the developed data assimilation method. Measurement metrics are used to evaluate the robustness of SMC methods in data assimilation for wildfire spread simulation. Sensitivity analysis is carried out to examine the influences of important parameters to the data assimilation results. This work of analysis and quantification provides information to assess the effectiveness of the data assimilation method and 1 Authors’ addresses: Feng Gu, Department of Computer Science, 34 Peachtree Street, Suite 1450, Atlanta, GA 30303; Email: [email protected]; Xiaolin Hu, Department of Computer Science, 34 Peachtree Street, Suite 1450, Atlanta, GA 30303; Email: [email protected]. suggests guidelines to further improve the data assimilation method for wildfire spread simulation.

Data Assimilation Based on Sequential Monte Carlo Methods for Dynamic Data Driven Simulation

Simulation models are widely used for studying and predicting dynamic behaviors of complex systems. Inaccurate simulation results are often inevitable due to imperfect model and inaccurate inputs. With the advances of sensor technology, it is possible to collect large amount of real time observation data from real systems during simulations. This gives rise to a new paradigm of Dynamic Data Dri...

Towards parameter estimation in wildfire spread simulation based on sequential Monte Carlo methods

Simulation models rely on many parameters to model the structure and behavior of systems under study. To achieve accurate simulation results, there is a need to develop methods to dynamically estimate the correct set of model parameters for a given simulation scenario. In this paper, we present a method to dynamically estimate model parameters by assimilating real time data using Sequential Mon...

SpSIR: a spatially-dependent sequential importance resampling for high dimensional spatial temporal system simulation

For a high dimensional spatial temporal system, data assimilation is introduced to dynamically adjust the simulation result when the model is imperfect or the parameters are imprecise. Sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) methods or particle filters (PFs) are popular data assimilation scheme. However, in a high dimensional spatial temporal system where observations and state are spatially distributed, ...
